Ingredients

If you’re hosting this year, these simple ingredients make this recipe a breeze to pull together:

  • 2 blocks (16 oz total) of cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar works best for its bold flavor and pumpkin-like color)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Crushed cheese crackers (like Cheez-Its) or crushed nuts (optional, for coating – I personally coated mine with grated cheddar cheese for simplicity and extra flavor!)
  • Bell pepper stem (for the pumpkin “stem”)
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro leaves (optional, for decoration)

How to Make This Quick & Easy Pumpkin Cheese Ball

1. Mix the Cheese Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the (softened) cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. I even added a pinch of Everything Bagel Seasoning. Mix everything until smooth and well combined.

2. Shape the Cheese Ball

Form the cheese mixture into a ball. Lay down plastic wrap and spread shredded cheese out evenly.Use your hands to shape it into a round, slightly flattened “pumpkin” shape.

3. Create Pumpkin Ridges

After the cheese ball is wrapped, use rubber bands or kitchen twine to create ridge around the plastic wrap, mimicking the grooves of a pumpkin. Chill in the fridge for at least 1-2 hours to let it firm up.

4. The Moment You’ve Waited For: Unwrap the Cheese Ball

Once chilled, unwrap the cheese ball and remove the rubber bands or twine. Immediately place on a serving platter because it’s best not to move your cheese ball more times than needed.

5. Add the Stem, Crackers & Veggies

Insert the bell pepper stem on top as the pumpkin “stem.” For a festive touch, garnish with parsley or cilantro leaves,  I used a clipping from my pothos plant.

6. Serve & Enjoy!

Surround it with crackers, breadsticks, pretzel bites, or fresh veggies. It’s a simple yet impressive appetizer that will have your guests raving!

Tips for Success

  • Make It Ahead: Prep the cheese ball the night before to save time before your next gathering.
  • Pair with a Spread: Surround it with a variety of dippers like crackers, veggies, or even apple slices to suit all your guests.
  • Customize the Flavors: Add ingredients like diced jalapeños for spice or fresh herbs for a more sophisticated flavor.

In conclusion, hosting Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be stressful! This Quick & Easy Pumpkin Cheese Ball is the perfect solution for a festive, flavorful appetizer that looks as good as it tastes. Whether you’re entertaining a large group or keeping it small, this recipe is guaranteed to delight your guests and make your holiday table shine.
